The DFR-8320 is a 2RU rack mounting frame that can house up to twenty openGear type modular cards.
Architecture
The frame is designed to accept individual rear connector modules that provide the proper I/O requirements of the installed modular card. This feature offers great flexibility allowing the end user to freely mix and match a variety of openGear solutions from analog audio to 3Gb/s HD video within the same mounting frame. Reconfiguring a frame at a later date as needs change is also a breeze.
The front door of the frame can be hinged down for easy access to the installed modules. It may also be completely removed, no tools required, to facilitate set up during installation. The front door includes a retaining assembly that holds all installed modules and power supplies firmly in place.
Power Supplies
The DFR-8320 can accommodate two modular PS-8300 power supplies. While a single supply will carry the frame load the second supply is installed to provide redundancy. Redundancy is carried through to the primary AC source by the individual power cords for each supply that connects to the frame via fused IEC AC connectors.
Each power supply has an integral cooling fan, status LED and front mounted power switch. The power supplies slide into the frame from the front after the frame door is opened.
The DFR-8320 comes factory equipped with one power supply.
Cooling Fan Kit
The frame is designed with enhanced ventilation in order for it to operate safely with convection cooling only when the total module load is 40 watts. In instances where additional forced air cooling is required an optional fan assembly may be added to the front door assembly.
Reference Assembly
A rear mounted reference assembly is provided with each DFR-8320 frame. This assembly provides two individual reference inputs, each with loop through, on BNC type connectors an Ethernet connection on an RJ-45 connector and a looped through serial control on two RJ-45 connectors. The serial control loop through allows up to four DFR-8320 frames to be connected to a common serial control bus. A DIP switch array on the reference assembly sets a unique serial bus address for each frame.
To service or upgrade the reference assembly simply remove it from the frame by undoing the retaining screws.
Frame Interface Network Card (FINC)
The FINC card, model MFC-8310-N, allows users to communicate directly with all Dashboard enabled openGear modules. Dashboard is a Java based free software application that puts status monitoring and control of openGear modules from a remote location at your finger tips. The FINC card also connects the optional cooling fan kit to the frame power supply rail. The supplies will operate with 115 V/60 Hz or 230 V/50 Hz AC mains without any special setup.
